Doing homework
Hello Friends of the Hogar San Jose!
These past 3 months have been very busy at our home. After our holiday trip to the coast in Mar Del Plata, our girls started the school year (March-December).
Getting ready for school is not easy, after 3 months of relaxing. And preparing our school supplies and clothing for 30 girls takes lots of resources and planning! We are now finishing the first trimester and the girls are settling in nicely.
Thanks to our donor friends, we have doing some of the much needed repairs. Bathrooms are being refurbished, a carpenter is fixing our doors and windows, and the whole house will be rewired, so that it can be brought up to date, and we can install heating by hot air. We used to have individual natural gas heaters but our natural gas connection was cancelled towards the end of last year because of leaks, and repairing the 90 year old system was not possible, we had to install the whole thing and it was very costly. After much investigation, we were told the best option was to go with electrical based hot air heaters.
We had our yearly charity dinner and it went well, we managed to raise 40.000 US$, which covers our deficit for 4 months!. We are working hard to get the funds we still need to finish installing the heating! It is starting to get cold here in Bs As.
We also made it to the press and into cable tv. This helps us to make our cause better known. Thank you all!
Hope to see you at our Home, if you are around Buenos Aires.
Sincerely,
Maria Reynolds
